Damon Salvatore is a fictional character from L. J. Smith’s novel series The Vampire Diaries. Played by Ian Somerhalder in the television series. He is one of the two male protagonists in The Vampire Diaries. Damon was a 178-year-old vampire, and an ancestor of Silas.

Damon has all the standard capabilities and powers of a non-original vampire. In addition, Damon has proven his skills as a combatant who can easily take down his foes. Given that Damon is nearly 170 years older, he’s a powerful and old vampire able to survive in any condition.
In terms of vampire years, Damon is a relatively young vampire that has appeared in the show, along with his brother Stefan. Damon’s first advantage (being more robust and quicker) over Stefan was due to the fact that he was older and regularly drinking human blood.
